Tasty Twists on Traditional Chicken Noodle Soup

Chicken noodle soup is the quintessential cold-weather dish-- it’s perfect for warming up on a cold night or soothing your throat to get through those pesky winter illnesses. It really is great comfort food! While this is all true, of course, we have to admit that traditional chicken noodle soup can get a little boring sometimes. So, we invite you to consider these tasty twists next time you cook up a batch.

  • Make it Italian: While traditional homemade chicken noodle soup already tends to use vegetables, this Italian take includes yummy additions such as tomatoes, zucchini, and herbs. If you’re looking to add a little more Italian flavor, we recommend adding a dash of our Pasta Lovers Paradise seasoning.

  • Change up your noodles: Using zoodles in place of egg noodles in your traditional chicken noodle soup way is a great way to not only change it up, but it’s also an easy way to include more vegetables. Choosing zoodles instead of egg noodles is also an easy way to make your dish low-carb or take the first step towards creating a gluten-free version of this classic comfort food. We also recommend swapping out your egg noodles (or zoodles!) for cheese tortellini.

  • Chicken noodle soup, but make it creamy: Adding flour and milk to your chicken broth will make your chicken noodle soup extra thick and creamy.

  • Add some spice: Adding some sriracha (or your favorite choice of hot sauce) is a simple way to add a kick to your traditional recipe. If you’re going for more of a tropical spice (we all love to be reminded of warmer weather in the cold seasons sometimes), try adding our Spicy Caribbean Chicken seasoning for an island twist!

  • Add some cheese: It’s safe to say that cheese can improve almost any dish. Even a bowl of canned chicken noodle soup can become tastier with some cheese sprinkled on top or mixed in.

While chicken noodle soup will always be considered a traditional dish, often one whose recipe is passed down through generations, that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Even if you begin to get tired of your families traditional recipe for this classic winter comfort food, there is always going to be something you can change or add, whether you’re looking for a little more spice, a healthier noodle alternative, or even just a dish that’s a little creamier.

We hope this has inspired you to get into the kitchen and begin experimenting with your own chicken noodle soup-- happy cooking!
